Dharmendra Passed Away at 89

After a brief illness, veteran movie star Dharmendra passed away on Monday morning at his Mumbai House. He was 89 at the time of His death. On December 8th, he was supposed to turn 90. The Pawan Hans crematory conducted his final rites. On October 31, Dharmendra was suffering from dyspnoea and was hospitalized at the Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai.

Amidst strict security, a number of celebrities, including Dharmendra’s second wife Hema Malini, co-stars Amitabh Bachchan, and Salman Khan, and other performers, including Sanjay Dutt and Aamir Khan, attended the actor’s funeral.

Political figures from all parties expressed their sympathies for the late actor on social media. The list includes LoP Rahul Gandhi, Delhi CM Rekha Gupta, PM Narendra Modi, and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.

Outstanding Bollywood Career of Dharmendra

Kewal Dharmendra, at the age of 24, made his cinematic debut in Dil Bhi Tera Hum Bhi Tere in 1960. He played minor roles in popular films like Bandini, Ayee Milan Ki Bela, and Kaajal during the ensuing years.

However, it was the 1965 war movie Haqeeqat that made him popular at the Box Office. He became a marketable star after Phool aur Patthar.  Aadmi Aur Insaan, Mera Gaon Mera Desh, Seeta Aur Geeta, Sholay, Loafer, Yaadon Ki Baaraat, and Dharam Veer were just some of the most popular Bollywood films in that Dharmendra appeared from this point on till the end of the 1970s.

He switched to action films in the 1980s, frequently directing groups in low-budget hits like Elaan-E-Jung, Ghulami, Badle Ki Aag, and Loha. Over the course of his 64-year career, he played the lead role in 75 hits. The number is more than any other Hindi movie actor. Superstars like Amitabh Bachchan (57), Rajesh Khanna (42), Shah Rukh Khan (35), and Salman Khan (38) didn’t have more career hits than Dharmendra.

Because of his versatility and ability to captivate audiences in every role, he was one of the most beloved actors of his generation in Indian film. The upcoming military drama ‘Ikkis’, starring Agastya Nanda, will be his final big-screen appearance.

Dharmendra’s Journey from sleeping in a tiny garage in Mumbai during his difficult times to becoming one of the most adored performers in Bollywood is very inspirational.
