7 Elephants Killed in a Train Accident in Assam

Assam Train Accident: Rail services were disrupted on Saturday morning when a herd of elephants crashed with the Sairang-New Delhi Rajasthani express in Hojai, Assam. It resulted in at least one calf injury. 5 coaches and the locomotive were derailed after the New Delhi Rajdhani Express collided with the herd of elephants. Reports according to officials. There were no recorded passenger injuries or casualties.

Around 2:17 in the morning, the train headed for New Delhi had an accident, according to PTI. Mizoram’s Sairang (near aizwal) and Delhi’s Anand Vihar Terminal are connected by the Sairang-New Delhi Rajdhani Express.

No casualties in the Assam Train Accident

Official said that all passengers and railroad employees were safe despite the accident. The trains struck the herd despite the loco pilot’s claimed use of emergency breaks upon seeing the elephants on the track.

Shortly after the derailment, senior railway officials from the Lumding divisional headquarters arrived at the scene to supervise rescue and restoration efforts, and accident relief trains were put into operation.

After the derailed coaches were detached, passengers from the impacted coaches were moves to empty seats in other coaches. Then the train left for Guwahati at approximately 6:11 a.m. Before the train goes to New Delhi more coaches will be added at Guwahati to accommodate more passengers, according to railway officials.

Trains rerouted

Trains that were supposed to travel through the impacted Jamunamukh-Kampur segment have been rerouted. The UP line will now be used for their operations.

Parts of upper Assam and other not eastern regions are served by the impacted trains. The Restoration process is in progress. When news of the event spread, railroad officials and accident relief trains raced to the location to start rescue efforts.

The Anand Vihar railway station in New Delhi and Sairang in Mizoram are connected to the Sairang-New Delhi Rajdhani Express.
