Delhi’s Rain Improves AQI: New IMD Report

New IMD Report: After the first rain of the year, Delhi’s AQI improved to “satisfactory” levels on Friday. The air quality at IGI, Pusa, Lodhi Road, and Mandir Marg slightly lowered. Ten days of poisonous air caused the AQI to return to the “201-300” range.

The protracted dry spell was broken on the morning of January 23 by significant rainfall. At 11:00 AM, Delhi’s average Air Quality Index (AQI) was 285. Twenty-one of the 39 monitoring sites reported “poor” air quality. Four of them reported “moderate” air quality, and the remaining four reported “satisfactory” values. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the “intense western disturbance” caused the weather shift.

Nowcast Alerts from IMD

An orange caution for light to moderate rainfall and thunderstorms has been issued for Delhi, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). Upto ten in the morning, the nowcast alert is in effect. According to the IMD, wind speeds are predicted to be between 40 and 60 kmph throughout this time.

On Friday, the effects of a Western disturbance across northwest India persisted. It reported bringing lightning, thunderstorms, rain, and strong winds to a number of areas. It is anticipated that the weather system will continue throughout the day.

For the next few hours, similar weather conditions are expected across Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, west Uttar Pradesh, and north Rajasthan, according to the IMD nowcast warnings that were released at around 9:15 a.m.

Shimla experience it’s first snowfall of the season

Shimla has its first snowfall of the season on Friday, following a three-month dry period. The higher parts of Himachal Pradesh, including Manali, another well-liked tourist destination, are also experiencing snowfall. Heavy rainfall and snowfall are predicted by the local met centre. An advisory to refrain from driving till the weather clears has been issued by the Shimla administration. According to the administration, the Chopal-Deha route has been shut since snowfall is also occurring in the district’s higher reaches, including Chopal.
