Kolkata Law College Gang Rape: Three guys were detained by Kolkata Police on Friday in connection with the gang rape of a law student at South Calcutta Law College. The Incident took place in the Kasba neighbourhood of the city. Two of the accused are now enrolled in the school, and the third is a former student. On June 26, one day following the incident, the survivor filed a First Information Report (FIR) with the police.

The accused allegedly urged the woman, a first-year student. Urged to remain behind after she had arrived on campus for some work at around 4 PM. Her claim of gang rape has been supported by the medical examination. The authorities have verified the existence of injuries typical of sexual assault. Doctors discovered “forceful penetration, bite marks, and nail scratches” on her torso, the report said.

After appearing before the Alipore additional chief judicial magistrate’s court, the accused—Monojit Mishra, 31, a college employee, and students Zaib Ahmed, 19, and Pramit Mukherjee, 20—were placed under police custody till July 1 for the Kolkata Law College Gang Rape.

A practicing attorney among the defendants. The primary suspect in the gang rape case, Monojit Mishra, is one of four people who have been taken into custody thus far. According to a police officer who spoke to the news agency PTI, Mishra is a criminal lawyer in practice. He sexually assaulted the law student while the other two defendants stood watch outside the room. Mishra is an alumnus of the college and also an ad-hoc professor there. From his cell phone, a 1.5-minute video clip was found.

Findings from the medical report. The medical report, which shows evidence of forceful penetration, bite marks, and nail scratches on the victim’s body, supports the gangrape survivor’s claims.

Security guard detained. Pinaki Banerjee, a security guard at the law college, was the most recent person detained in the gang rape case. Police claim that the guard was arrested after “his replies were incoherent” and that he was held for interrogation. He was also visible on the college’s CCTV footage. Promit Mukherjee and Zaid Ahmed, two other college students, have also been taken into custody.

Kolkata Police Forms SIT. Assistant Commissioner of Police (South Suburban Division), Pradip Ghoshal, will serve as the head of the five-member SIT that the Kolkata Police have constituted. Additionally, a statement from the survivor and her family will be recorded by the probe team.

CCTV supports the claims. News outlet PTI claims to have received CCTV footage of the law college’s grounds on the day of the crime. This video was shot on June 25 between 3:30 and 10:50 p.m. It depicts the survivor being dragged into the guard room. It displays the movements of the survivor, the security guard, and the three defendants. We’re looking at the video right now,” one officer was cited as saying.

Evidence from Campus. Police have obtained evidence from three different areas on the South Calcutta Law College campus: the guard’s quarters, the lavatory and the students’ union room. “In all three rooms, there are obvious indications of conflict. A news agency was informed by an official that the samples had been sent for forensic analysis.

Rejected marriage proposal. According to police, the horrifying crime may have been committed because the student turned down a marriage proposal from the main suspect. The three accused were allegedly informed by the woman that she was “happy” with her partner. She also said she would not “cheat” on him. Still unknown, though, is whether the gang rape was prearranged.
