Operation Sindoor: Flights Cancelled due to Airspace Closing

According to a source, several airlines cancelled up to 138 flights to and from the Delhi airport on Friday. Airport security has also been tightened in response to the escalating hostilities between India and Pakistan. In response to Operation Sindoor, which saw military forces launch strikes on terror targets in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir on Wednesday in retaliation for the Pahalgam terror attack that claimed at least 26 lives last month, about 27 airports across the nation are closed.

Many flights have been cancelled as a result of the airport closures. According to the source, between 5 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Friday, 66 domestic flights and 63 arrivals, together with 5 international flights and 4 arrivals, were cancelled.

Thirteen flights were cancelled out of Pune. According to the airport authority’s official statement. It included two from SpiceJet and eleven from IndiGo. The affected routes included significant domestic sectors like as Amritsar, Cochin, Chandigarh, Hyderabad, Rajkot (Hirasar), Jodhpur, Surat, Bhavnagar, and Jaipur.

“Airport operations in Delhi continue as usual. However, some flight schedules and security processing timings may be affected due to changing airspace conditions and increased security procedures, DIAL stated in a post on X on Friday.

The largest and busiest airport in the nation, Indira Gandhi International Airport, is run by Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL). Additionally, DIAL recommended travellers to cooperate with airline and security personnel. Cooperate for efficient processing and to be ready for extra time at security checkpoints.

Routes Affected by Airport Closures in Operation Sindoor

Carriers including IndiGo, Air India, SpiceJet, and Go First are being disrupted by the closure of 18 airports. Airports in northern, western, and central India, including Srinagar, Jammu, Leh, and Amritsar. The following airports have been closed: Pathankot, Jammu, Mundra, Jamnagar, Hirasar (Rajkot), Bhuntar, Kishengarh, Patiala, Shimla, Kangra-Gaggal, Bhatinda, Jaisalmer, Jodhpur, Bikaner, Halwara, and Jammu.
