Rahul Gandhi Claims CEC Gyanesh Kumar Trying to Shield Vote Thieves in Press Conference

The Lok Sabha’s Leader of the Opposition, Rahul Gandhi, accused the Congress party on Thursday’s Press Conference of losing elections through the “systematic deletion” of voter lists. He asserted that certain groups are being singled out. Voters from OBCs, minorities, Dalits, and Tribals communities, who tend to vote for the opposition were removed.

Gandhi used the Karnataka assembly constituency of Aland as an example to support his argument. According to the Leader of the Opposition, an attempt was made in Aland to remove 6,018 votes. He mentioned, it was discovered by accident.

“Somebody tried to delete 6018 votes. The exact amount of votes that were eliminated in Aland during the 2023 election is unknown. At a press conference on Thursday Morning, Rahul Gandhi stated. “They are much higher than 6,018, but someone was caught deleting those 6018 votes, and it was caught by coincidence.”

Important Points from Rahul Gandhi’s Press Conference

Here are the key Takeaways from Rahul Gandhi’s Press Conference on Thursday:

Attempts to remove votes from congressionally strong booths

Rahul Gandhi claimed that voter deletions target booths where Congress is in the lead and are not random. He asserted that an attempt was made to remove 6,018 votes from the Karnataka constituency of Aland, which is probably a small portion of the total. He brought up the instance of Godabai, a woman whose name was purportedly used to fabricate login credentials in order to remove 12 voters without her knowledge.

Automated tools, dubious numbers, and fraudulent logins

Rahul Gandhi displayed slides that purportedly displayed fictitious login credentials and non-Karnataka cell numbers that were utilised throughout the deletion procedure. He invited Suryakant and Babita Choudhari, one of the “deleted” voters, on stage after he reportedly removed 12 voters in 14 minutes. Another example: Rahul Gandhi referred to it as “humanly impossible” when he claimed that a man named Nagaraj completed two deletion forms in only 38 seconds at 4:07 am.

Call center-style, centralised operations

Rahul Gandhi claimed that the voter removals were the result of a centralised software-based operation that may have been operated out of a call centre. Applications were purportedly submitted using the same cellphone number in several states. He said that the technology was designed to control both voter additions and deletions.

18 letters from the Karnataka CID were disregarded by the EC

Rahul Gandhi accused Gyanesh Kumar, the chief election commissioner (CEC), of protecting the scammers. He mentioned Election Commission never gave a substantive response to the 18 letters that Karnataka CID sent over the course of 18 months. Letters asking for information about the voter deletion scheme. According to Rahul Gandhi, the last letter was delivered in September 2025.

Rahul Gandhi handed the CEC a week to provide evidence to the Karnataka CID. Gandhi accused him of shielding the populace while undermining and attacking the constitution.

Fake Maharashtra additions

Rahul Gandhi has accused the Rajura Assembly of Maharashtra of having phoney voter additions, including odd entries such as:

  • Name of voter: “YUH UQJJW”
  • Address: “Sasti, Sasti”

According to him, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Bihar, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh all showed the similar pattern.

ECI’s Response

In order to avoid being accused of “actively protecting the vote chors (thieves),” Rahul Gandhi ordered that the Election Commission of India provide information on the mobile numbers and OTPs used in the scandal within a week.

Shortly after Rahul Gandhi’s news conference on Thursday, the Election Commission of India (EC) replied. EC replied calling his claims as “incorrect and baseless.”
