Trump and Putin Meeting: Following months of fruitless diplomatic attempts to halt the war in Ukraine, President Donald Trump will finally meet Russian President Vladimir Putin in person in Alaska on Friday, August 15. At a U.S. military installation in Alaska, the two leaders are meeting. Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the president of Ukraine, will not be present. Zelenskyy has rejected the notion of making territorial concessions to end the war, and he has spoken with Trump twice this week.

The “more important meeting” would involve both Zelenskyy and Putin, Trump stated on August 14. He indicated that would be the next step. Trump declared on August 14 that “we’re going to see what happens.” Additionally, I believe President Putin will broker a settlement. I believe that peace will be made by President Zelensky. What time is the meeting between Trump and Putin?

On Friday, August 15, Trump departed the White House at 7:30 a.m. ET and flew aboard Air Force One for around six to seven hours until touching down in Anchorage.

According to the White House, a joint press conference is anticipated after the meeting, which is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. ET (11 a.m. Alaska time). Anchorage, Alaska’s Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson will host the meeting between the two global leaders. The facility, which is around 700 miles from the Russian border, is home to over 30,000 service troops, their families, and civilian staff.

Trump’s meeting with Putin will be followed by a “bilateral lunch” between the two presidents and their respective delegations, followed by a press conference, according to White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt, who made the announcement on Fox News’ Fox and Friends on August 14.

The Updates regarding meeting of Trump and Putin

  • Before boarding Air Force One to depart for Alaska this morning, Donald Trump sent the succinct statement “HIGH STAKES!!!” on social media.
  • While on board, he has been telling reporters that territory swaps would be considered but that Ukraine will ultimately make the choice and that he is not there to negotiate on their behalf.
  • Ukraine’s Volodymyr Zelensky is not attending. He says in a post on X that the conference is “indeed, high stakes”. He also mentioned that “we are counting on America.” He also says he hopes the discussions will pave the way for a “path towards a just peace.”
  • A Kremlin official claims that Trump will greet Putin on the steps of the Russian president’s plane. It  is scheduled to arrive at 11:00 local time (20:00 BST), but we haven’t heard directly from Putin yet today. Additionally, they claim that the two leaders’ meeting might go on for up to seven hours.
  • Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov is one of five Russian officials present at the conference. He said the Russian delegation has a “clear, understandable position”. They showed up sporting a “USSR” shirt.
