US Attacks Venezuela: According to US President Donald Trump, the US has detained Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro after launching a significant military attack on the South American country. According to US media sources, Maduro and his wife, first lady Cilia Flores, were transported to a New York air base and are detained at Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Centre. Both are accused of crimes involving guns and narcotics trafficking.

Trump claimed that the move was a military Operation carried out in cooperation with US law enforcement agencies. They shared a picture of Maduro wearing a blindfold on the USS Iwo Jima. In the meantime, several explosions were reported in Caracas early on Saturday. It also included explosions close to the military.

The Acquisitions Made by the US against Maduro

Maduro has been accused by the Trump administration on multiple occasions of being personally involved in international drug trafficking. Accused of being in charge of the cartel de los Soles. It is an alleged network that is part of Venezuela’s security forces.

Together with Tren de Aragua, the group has been labelled as a foreign terrorist organisation by Trump. According to the BBC, the 50 million dollar price was approved for the information that led to Maduro’s capture. Additionally, Trump has presented the operation as a component of a larger initiative to stop trafficking in the Caribbean.

Trump declared after the seizure that American oil firms would enter Venezuela and that the US would “run” the country. He said that it will continue until a safe and proper judicious transition occurs.

The constitutional chamber of Venezuela’s Supreme Court on Saturday directed Vice President Delcy Rodríguez to take over as interim president in the absence of Maduro.

According to the court decision, he would take over “the office of President of the Republic of Venezuela”. He will be taking the position in order to guarantee administrative continuity and comprehensive defence of the nation.
