Greta Gerwig’s Barbie Enters Billion-Dollar Club at Global Box Office

Greta Gerwig’s highly anticipated film “Barbie,” featuring the talented duo of Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling in lead roles, has achieved a remarkable milestone by joining the prestigious billion-dollar worldwide club. This phenomenal achievement marks “Barbie” as one of the top-grossing films of the year, following closely behind the success of “The Super Mario Bros. Movie,” which also achieved the billion-dollar mark earlier. This year’s cinematic landscape has been enriched by the immense popularity and box office success of both these outstanding films, capturing the hearts of audiences around the globe and solidifying their positions among the year’s most impactful cinematic creations.

Greta Gerwig’s Barbie starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling among others, has at last surpassed the $1 billion mark. Over its third weekend, the movie brought in one billion dollars. It joined Spider-Man: No Way Home, Top Gun: Maverick, Jurassic World: Dominion, Avatar 2: The Way Of Water, and The Super Mario Bros. Movie as the sixth post-covid picture to join the exclusive club, moving up to joint ninth fastest.

Barbie might become the most successful movie in the world in 2023

Barbie was anticipated to perform well in the theatre, but it was never anticipated to generate more than a billion dollars in revenue. Unaware that the movie would actually make that kind of money, Margot Robbie presented Barbie as a billion-dollar idea. The Mattel doll movie is expected to earn over 1.3 billion dollars in sales before it opens in lucrative areas like Japan, where it hasn’t yet been released. Hopefully, Barbie will surpass The Super Mario Bros. Movie’s 1.35 billion dollars at the global box office to become the year’s highest-grossing movie.

In terms of individual milestones, Greta Gerwig is the only female filmmaker to have produced a film with a $1 billion global gross. She is presumably the only director to have her third film be a billion-dollar grosser. Barbie is the first movie to gross $1 billion this year. The Flash has given Warner Bros some relief following a lackluster start to Summer 2023.

Theatrically, Barbie and Oppenheimer complement one another

Barbenheimer

Barbie and Oppenheimer were both blockbuster pictures that came out within a week before the action adventure Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part 1. The early predictions were for both of these movies to debut and earn under M:I7, but the beauty of box office is that it’s difficult to gauge how well a movie will perform with viewers. Oppenheimer has made over 500 million dollars worldwide, whilst Barbie has already made a billion dollars. Despite having a wider appeal than a docudrama like Oppenheimer, Mission: Impossible 7 has yet to pass the $500 million threshold.
