IPL Resume: BBCI to Restart IPL amid Ceasefire News

After India and Pakistan reached a ceasefire agreement on Saturday night, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is allegedly looking into the potential of starting the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) season “immediately.” They are not totally in control, though. IPL chairman Arun Dhumal told the Indian Express that the BCCI is now drafting the timetable and consulting with all parties involved about resuming the competition. He did, however, clarify that approval from the Indian government is required for the restart.

“A ceasefire was just declared. We now investigate the potential for the IPL to resume and end. If it can be carried out right away… We will now be talking to all the stakeholders, including broadcasters, team owners, and everyone else engaged, to figure out how to proceed after figuring out the venue dates and other details. The government will need to be consulted, above everything else,” Dhumal stated.

Rajeev Shukla, the vice-president of the BCCI, also affirmed that on Sunday, May 11, the Indian board authorities will meet with the IPL governing council to review the schedule. “The conflict is over. In the new scenario, the IPL governing council, officials, and BCCI office bearers will talk about the issue tomorrow (Sunday) and make a decision,” he told PTI Videos. “We will see which can be the best schedule to complete the tournament.”

IPL to Restart

The BCCI is eager to get the IPL back up and running as quickly as possible. Thus all IPL teams, including the players, have been advised to be prepared. Given that the majority of the international players have already taken flights home, the BCCI plans to ask each team how swiftly they can prepare for the final few weeks of the tournament on such short notice.

Plans are on to begin the tournament as soon as possible, and all ten teams are attempting to bring coaching staff and players from abroad back to India. It is believed that, with approval from the Indian government, the IPL may begin as early as the following weekend, or around May 15.

After cross-border tensions between India and Pakistan escalated to the point that the May 8 match between the Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings was called off midway through the first innings in Dharamsala, the BCCI was forced to suspend the competition for a week on Friday.

The Challenge

The BCCI has selected three locations to host the final 16 games. It include 12 league games and four playoffs, according to an ESPNCricinfo report. Hyderabad, Chennai, and Bengaluru have been hand-picked to host the remaining tournament games. However, the government will be consulted before the final decision is made. The famous Eden Gardens won’t be able to host the final and Qualifier 2 if it occurs.

The teams conceded earlier on Saturday that there would be no assurances if the season continued past May 25. The IPL 2025 final was set to take place in Kolkata. Even though they were still hopeful that the majority of the foreign players would return if the league resumed early. The World Test Championship (WTC) final between Australia and South Africa begins on June 11 at Lord’s. Bilateral obligations for a number of players are the reasons behind this.

Where will the remaining matches of IPL 2025 be organised?
