A large-scale security operation was conducted by Mexico on Sunday throughout the Western state of Jalisco, which includes Guadalajara and Puerto Vallarta. ‘El Mencho,’ also known as drug lord Nemesio Rubén Oseguera Cervantes, was apprehended by the military during this operation and raid.
The influential Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) was led by El Mencho. Oseguera died during an air transfer to Mexico City after being gravely wounded in a shooting in Jalisco, according to Mexico’s Defence Ministry.
The State’s security operation coincides with mounting pressure on cartels from the Mexican government due to US intervention threats. Additionally, US President Donald Trump has been threatening tariffs for some time.
But after El Mencho was killed, the military operations sparked off a chain of bloodshed that spread to other states. Highways were blocked by gunmen, cars were set on fire, and airport operations were disrupted. The conflicts have also resulted in the closure of schools in Guadalajara.
