According to Live Science, archaeologists have found the ancient period site of Saint Nicholas. He is the man who inspired the Santa Claus tale. His tomb was found beneath a cathedral in Southern Turkey. The Saint was interred in a church in the region of Antalya, Turkey in the fourth century AD. However, it is unknown where he was originally buried because his remains were taken around 700 years after he passed away.
The Myra church was renamed Demre in 2005, according to a Greek reporter, Osman Eravsar. On the site of an earlier Christian Church, where Saint Nicholas was a bishop, it was constructed in 520 AD. According to some scholars, the burial was drowned during the Middle Ages due to rising sea levels in the Mediterranean. Osman also recently revealed that the tomb of Saint Nicholas was found at the foot of a Jesus Christ mural.

Location: The tomb was discovered beneath the UNESCO-designated St. Nicholas Church in Antalya’s Demre neighbourhood.
The Tomb: A six-foot long limestone coffin, having a pitched roof and a raised lif, was found buried under the mosaics of a Byzantine Church that was built over the original, drowned sanctuary.
Archaeological Evidence: Researchers unearthed evidence of the old 5th-century church, including floors, lightning, and, in some interpretations, animal bones. These imply a hallowed, protected burial ground.
Significance: This discovery casts doubt on the long-held notion that Saint Nicholas’ remains were pilfered and transported to Bari, Italy, in the eleventh century. It indicates that his original resting place was still in Turkey.
Ongoing work: Experts are certain that this is the right place. In order to confirm identification, they’re looking for an inscription on the sarcophagus.

He cut down a tree controlled by a demon and saved girls from adult work. The publication claims that the saint used to regularly donate his inherited fortune to the underprivileged in an unknown manner. It eventually gave rise to the myth that he was Santa Claus. He was also popularly known as “Nicholas the Wonderworker”.
