Following claims that school principals were encouraged to create and distribute videos supporting the board’s contentious On-Screen Marking (OSM) system for class 12 board exams, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has come under massive scrutiny.
Reports state that CBSE regional offices distributed “material for principals”. It included scripts and suggested talking points urging School administrators to reassure parents and children about the digital evaluation system. OSM was described as “transparent,” “accurate,” “faster,” and “technology-driven” in a number of videos. It was seen that principles from different schools uploaded the videos online for possible PR.
A growing Gap in Trust in CBSE
In the meantime, parents now see the debate more as a matter of trust than technology. This narrative, driven by leaders supporting the OSM process, has not impressed them. One parent said, “I’ve watched clips of principals complimenting the on-screen marking. Whether the school feels compelled to comply or the board has requested them to do so, it is an inexpensive strategy.” The parent whose child has requested reevaluation stated, “It is the student and their parents who are left to suffer.”
Students feel the same way. Although many agree that modernisation is necessary, some contend that trust in the system is just as important as the system itself.
Who Benefits from the narrative?

Nearly everyone with the exception of those in the center of the dispute.
CBSE gains because it is simpler to defend a reform that is seen at successful than one that is under public criticism.
Schools gain from the time, money, and credibility they put into putting the new system into place.
When the focus is on innovation, rather than execution, technology partners gain. In this case Coempt Eduteck of Hyderabad received the tender on a platter).
However, It becomes simpler for unsolved issues to fade into the background the more attention is drawing to success stories. Students and parents frequently find themselves battling with the very story intended to reassure them in that struggle for attention.
