Parliament Special Session; Lok Sabha to Discuss 3 Bills

Today, the Lok Sabha will vote on three bills to alter women’s reservation law and create a delimitation comission. Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju told the House that the debate would last for twelve hours. He said this on Thursday. The speaker ought to be able to prolong the discussion period. The legislation, will be put to a vote tomorrow.

After a split vote in the house, the constitution (one hundred and thirty first ammendment) bill, 2026, was approved in the Lok Sabha in Thursday. Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged opposition parties to back the measures during the day’s debate between the Center and the opposition. He claimed that opposing then would only further their political agenda.

AIMIM head Asaduddin Owaisis vehemently opposed the introduction of the Women’s Reservation law and the Delimitation Bill, while the Congress declared the law to be against the integrity of the nation. “The Opposition’s voice will be reduced to nothing in this House, if these laws are passed” he declared.

Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal has proposed the Constitution (one hundred and thirty first ammendment) Bill, 2026 and Delimitation Bill, 2026. While Home Minister Amit Shah has proposed the Union Territories Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2026. The Constitutional Amendment Bill, is the primary focus of this session. It aims to create a 33% reservation for women in the Lok Sabha and State Assemblies. Despite being passed in 2023, the law has not yet been implemented because it is associated with a new Delimitation process.
