Abhishek Banerjee, the General Secretary of the Trinamool Congress (TMC), was allegedly assaulted on Saturday afternoon. The incident took place at Sonarpur, South 24 Parganas. He was attacked by numerous Bhartiya Janata Party BJP employees, including women.
The TMC MP was allegedly attacked and shoved by men while security guards attempted to protect him. He was allegedly threatened by women who threw sandals and eggs at him.
Shouts of “chor chor” could be heard as Banerjee escaped along the street with his shirt ripped and a helmet on. He and the previous Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee, are said to have been subjected to abuse.
5 Arrested from the Abhishek Banerjee Attack
The police have detained at least 5 individuals who participated in the mob attack. The Trinamool Congress MP was attacked on Saturday. Tapan Maity and Akash were among those detained in the attack case. They were seen in the recordings.
Abhishek Banerjee was attacked in Sonapur, in West Bengal’s South 24 Parganas district, while he was visiting a victim of the violence that followed the election. Sanju Karmakar, the victim, was a TMC worker as well.
Even after that, the TMC MP visited the family of the victim of post-election violence. Afterwards, he accused Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of attacking him.

Mamata Banerjee’s response
Mamta Banerjee, the leader of the TMC and the former West Bengal chief minister, has questioned the security. After Abhishek Banerjee asserted that no police were there before his attack, she raised questions. She also questioned the hospital care he received.
After being brought to a private hospital, Abhishek Banerjee was given a bed in the intensive therapy unit (ITU). The doctors insisted that the injuries were minor and did not require admission.
“Why was he initially brought to the Intensive Care unit (ITU). Why was he observed for almost 2 hours and instructed to undergo numerous medical tests and scans? If there was truly no need for hospitalisation?” she questioned.
