Day 18 of activist Sonam Wangchuk’s hunger strike at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi began on Wednesday. He and the Cockroach Janta Party are still demanding the resignation of Union education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. The call for quit due to the alleged anomalies in the NEET (UG) 2026 exam and other exams.
On Wednesday the 25th day of the CJP project at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi begin. In support of the CJP agitation, educationist and climate activist Sonam Wangchuk joined the protest on June 28 and started indefinite hunger strike there.
Why is Sonam Wangchuk on a hunger strike at the Jantar Mantar?
Over the previous two days, images of a weak looking wangchuk surrounded by medical personnel while laying on a white mattress have gone viral. Abhijit Dipke, the founder of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), has always supported him.
Dipke launched the satirical cockroach party of few months ago. It has been calling for Pradhan’s resignation, educational reforms and compensation for the families of kids who reportedly committed suicide as a result of paper leaks. Additionally on July 20th, the first day of the monsoon session, the CJP has organised the protest march to parliament.
Wangchuk has not responded to requests to break his fast, according to Dipke.

There are also other people on hunger strike beside Sonam Wangchuk. For the same amount of time student activists have also been on a parallel hungary’s strike. The All India Students Association (AISA) is represented by at least four of them. Due to hypovolemic shock, one of them had to be admitted to the hospital on Monday.
Pradhan’s resignation and Rs 1 crore in compensation for the families of students who committed suicide due to test anomalies have been demanded by the CJP and other students.
Update on health of Sonam Wangchuk
Since the start of this strike, CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke has been providing daily update on his condition.
He has stated in one such update on Tuesday that the activist is in excruciating agony and has began to loss muscle mass. But he still won’t give up.
According to the updates, Sonam Wangchuk has said almost 8.4 kilogram since the start of his hunger strike. It is further mentioned that of Tuesday, his blood pressure had dropped to 109/70.
