Claiming the Election commission is corrupted, Congress activists around India are demonstrating and calling for Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation. At Delhi’s Jantar Mantar, demonstrators chanted anti-CEC chants. Police in Patna used water canons to halt a half kilometre march to the EC headquarters. Police were heavily deployed during the protest march to the CEC’s office in Kolkata. The protests come after two Election Commissioner reportedly voiced internal concerns over voter additions and removals during the electoral record amendment process.

The demonstrations followed an Indian express investigation. The investigation revealed Election Commissioner Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi had objected to judgements and directives they said and were made without their knowledge. They revealed it happened at least 14 times over a 10 month period. The complaints arose when the whole panel was overseeing the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral registers.
The procedure of adding and deleting individuals from electoral registers, the centralised management of the electoral roll database, and modifications to the mandatory voter registration form 6 were among the issues, according to the study.
The election commission has stated that disagreements and observations are a typical aspect of institutional discussions. Additionally, the poll panel has said that it’s instructions are given in compliance with established legislative procedures. It should also have full legal justification.
On October 2nd, the CJP threatens a Countrywide Demonstration
If CEC does not step down by Saturday, CJP has threatened to start Countrywide protests. Cockroach Janta Party will start protests on 2nd October.
On Gandhi Jayanti the protest will start in Mumbai and subsequently move to other Indian cities. CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke declared after the Indian express investigation.
