FIR After INDIA Bloc Protest March to Election Commission

Delhi Police have registered an FIR against Opposition Leader Rahul Gandhi, Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and several others for alleged forced entry into the premises of aakashvani Bhavan during and INDIA bloc protest on Tuesday, 6th October 2026. The case come a day after Delhi Police arrested around 260 people including 10 MPs. It came following the INDIA Bloc’s march from parliament to Election Commission of India. The INDIA bloc protest against the Election Commission intensified with Rahul Gandhi accusing the election committee of refusing to meet more than 300 opposition MPs who marched to its office. The elected desertives were stopped by Police near the NITI Aayog office on Parliament Street. They were seeking to meet Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and other election commissioners. Several leaders including Akhilesh Yadav, Derek O’Brien and Abhishek Banerjee where arrested after the march was stopped.

Rahul then entered Akashvani Bhavan with others and accused the EC of being afraid of meeting the opposition. He also reiterated the opposition’s allegations of ‘vote chori’ and question the electoral commission’s management of the electoral rolls. The INDIA bloc demands the resignation of Ganesh Kumar and opposes the SIR of electoral rolls amid the ongoing political conflict. The election commission maintained that the SIR’s decisions were taken unanimously.

The Opposition’s demands

The protest was organised by opposition parties to raise allegations regarding the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. As part of their protest, INDIA bloc leaders are also demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

The protest begin when members of the INDIA bloc staged the march from Parliament to Nirvachan sudden. It is the headquarters of the election commission. According to Delhi Police they had neither sought or received official permission for the protest.
