“Australia 450-2, India all out”: World Cup 2023 Final Prediction of Marsh goes Viral

The big match at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium is just one sleep away. India and Australia are the last two teams competing in the World Cup 2023 after 45 exciting league games and two exciting semifinal matches. With episode 14 of their incredible rivalry approaching, India and Australia will play each other for a record number of World Cup matches. In the run-up to the final, it’s interesting to review some of the pre-tournament predictions made about the summit match. Australian all-rounder Mitchell Marsh stands out because, while he was correct in his prophecy from roughly six months ago, the opener also predicted the scores.

In a 2023 podcast, Marsh made a prediction that Australia and India will face off in the championship game. The podcast was hosted by the Delhi Capitals, an IPL team. Marsh was willing to provide specifics about his forecast, saying that Australia will defeat India by 385 runs in the end after folding them for just 65.

While India reached their fourth final after 1983, 2003, and 2011, Australia, the most successful team in World Cup history with five titles (1987, 1999, 2003, 2007 and 2015), advanced to their eighth final after defeating South Africa. Marsh was accurate in the first half of his forecast. He hasn’t yet learned about the second portion of his comment, though.

Marsh, who has been in outstanding form this World Cup with 426 runs at 53.25, had said, “Australia will stay undefeated, defeating India in the final, Australia 450-2 in the final, India all out 65.”

The host side, not the Australians, is unbeaten in the competition thus far, having won all 10 of their games—nine in the round-robin phase and one semifinal—despite Marsh’s forecast that India and Australia would face off in the championship match coming true. On the other hand, Australia enters the championship game on an eight-game winning run. They opened the season with defeats to South Africa and India, but they turned things around and won the last three games to get to the final, including the semifinal matchup with the Proteas.
