ICC Reveals Huge Prize Money for ODI World Cup Winners

For the 2023 men’s ODI World Cup in India, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has set a Huge Prize Money. Teams from across the world have begun to assemble on the sub-continent in preparation for the ICC ODI World Cup, which is slated to begin in India in less than two weeks. A total prize pool of $6 million will be split between the two teams competing in the final, with $4 million going to the victor. Each of the 10 teams competing in the competition will get prize money.

How much is the Prize Money?

Each match winner in the league stage will get $40,000 from a $10 million prize money that the ICC will disburse. Each team that fails to advance to the semifinal round will get $100,000 in prize money. In a novel move, the ICC said that going forward, equal prize money will be awarded for men’s and women’s competitions. The premier tournament will feature a round-robin style with a total of 10 teams during the league stage.

While New Zealand, England, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Australia, Afghanistan, and South Africa advanced through the Super League round. India, the tournament’s hosts, earned a spot in the ODI World Cup. On the other hand, qualifications were required for Sri Lanka and the Netherlands to go to the World Cup league stage. Interestingly, neither Zimbabwe nor the two-time champion West Indies are included. Both failed to win their respective playoff teams a spot in the World Cup.

For winning the 45 games in the league stage, a total of $1.8 million will be given out. While the six Teams who were ousted in the league round will each receive $600,000. Each of the losing semifinalists will get $800,000, for a total of $1.6 million. The victors will take home $4 million, and also the runners-up receiving $2 million each.

The competition will begin on Thursday, October 5. With a rematch of the 2019 final between the defending champions England and New Zealand. Subject to interim adjustments, Mumbai and Kolkata will host the World Cup semifinals. If India qualifies for the World Cup semifinal and does not meet Pakistan, the game will be played in Mumbai. However, if India and Pakistan square off, the game will be played in Kolkata. On Sunday, November 19, the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad will host the ODI World Cup final.
