The ASUS Vivobook S 15 is one of the first refreshed Windows on ARM consumer-grade laptops based on a Qualcomm X Elite, making it one of the only Windows laptops you can buy. Highly regarded features include extensive battery life, speed usability, and several proprietary artificial intelligence tools to improve day-to-day usage. But there could be a few reasons why the ASUS Vivobook S 15 might not suit everyone.
Design
The ASUS Vivobook S 15 comes on top with its stunning aluminum build, combining a simple yet premium look and minimal but projective ‘ASUS VivoBook’ branding. The branding itself is understated and will blend into the silver at many angles, but if you catch it just right in light from above or beside, you’ll get quite an eyeful. The machine also has premium quality in touch, its look, excellent design, and thickness of only 14.7mm. That low profile, melded with its Featherlite packaging, can make it one of the most portable 15-inch laptops.
The Vivobook S 15 has a full-sized keyboard, a dedicated number pad, and an ample trackpad. The number pad is tiny, though, with only slightly narrower keys squeezed into the same space, which could make using it uncomfortable after a while. Outlining its 10-point capacitive touchscreen panel, however, is a plastic black bezel with an embossed texture effect, and although it sits on the high-end uni-bodied chassis crafted out of aluminum in Sony’s hallmark rolled edges – as featured by Tosin-Host Ventures’ tech blog–the display does not feel very luxurious.
Display and Audio
ASUS Vivobook S 15 sports a 15-inch 3K OLED display. Its OLED panel also offers much more colorful, contrast-ful, and inky blacks. Although it is a shiny panel, it does have surprisingly remarkable legibility in outdoor conditions. Glare is low at nearly any angle, and the 120Hz refresh rate delivers fast jumps.
ASUS Vivobook S 15 – 3K, OLED Panel The OLED panel can offer richer, deeper black levels and much more vibrant colors with a stunning contrast ratio. It is a glossy panel, but the display has good legibility outdoors, especially under bright, sunny conditions. There is minimal glare at most angles, and the 120Hz refresh rate smooths scrolling.
AI Tools
The Copilot+ PC platform introduced several unique AI-driven tools, several of which are found on the ASUS Vivobook S 15 right out of the box. It also has Live Caption and Co-creator.
Real-time captions for media content and video calls (Live Captions) The feature works with videos in Hindi and English on YouTube as well as third-party video call apps such as Google Meet. English captions are quite accurate in general, but sometimes they have problems with Hindi sentences. Live Captions can also transcribe spoken audio from the built-in microphones, which is less consistent.
Performance
Featuring the Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite SoC and 16GB of LPDDR5M RAM, the ASUS Vivobook S15 is nice and smooth for daily use! It runs noiselessly even during prolonged multitasking and offers Fan Speed Profiles, such as Full Speed or Performance. The laptop also gets a relatively seamless experience by simply closing the display when pausing work and reopening it later.
In gaming, obviously, the VivoBook S 15 will not be able to play any modern AAA title created for Windows on an x86 machine, but it provides varying gaming experiences. Witcher 3 is testing, which generally plays smoothly but may be jammed in and have longer loading times. After playing demanding games for almost an hour, the machine did not overheat.
