US-Iran peace talks in Islamabad: Following the end of ceasefire negotiations in Islamabad, the United States announced a broad military action against Iran. Following the failure of high-stakes negotiations with Iran in Islamabad, President Donald Trump declared that the US Navy would immediately start a blockade of ships entering or departing the Strait of Hormuz.
The survival of the precarious two-week ceasefire is unknown as the United States and Iran concluded 21 hours of in-person talks earlier in the day without coming to an agreement. All Iranian ports will be blocked starting on Monday at 10 a.m. EDT (5:30 p.m. in Iran). Reports according to the US Central Command.
Why did the Ceasefire Negotiations in Islamabad fail?
A fundamental dispute over Iran’s nuclear aspirations is at the core of the standoff. JD Vance refused to reopen the 21-hour secret talks on a public platform. He was blunt about the main cause of the talks’ breakdown. He said: Iran’s refusal to fully renounce nuclear weapons.
Vance described it as “the core goal of the President” and the main objective Washington had pursued throughout the negotiations. “The simple fact is that we need to see an affirmative commitment that they’ll not seek a nuclear weapon and they will not seek the tools that would enable them to quickly achieve a nuclear weapon,” he stated.

Hormuz under the authority of the Tehran Navy
Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Navy declared that it has “complete control” over the Strait of Hormuz. They issued a warning that any military ships that approach the canal “will be met with a firm and forceful response.” The strait is still accessible to non-military ships, Tehran added.
Iran claims the US sabotaged the US-Iran peace talks in Islamabad
Tehran has engaged in “good faith” and was nearing an agreement. Iran Foreign Minister Abbas Aragchi mentioned. “We encountered maximalism, shifting goalposts, and blockade when we were just inches away from the ‘Islamabad MoU,” he wrote.
“Good will begets Good will. Enmity begets enmity,” he continued.
