At a live event in Gujrat’s Ekta Nagar, President Droupadi Murmu presented the 72nd National Film Awards. It marked a significant milestone for Indian Cinema. This event took place infront of the famous Statue of Unity. It was a historic break from convention as the esteemed ceremony travelled outside of New Delhi for the first time, in the spirit of Ek Bharat, Shrestha Bharat. Celebrated performers, technicians, and directors gathered for the gala presentation to personally accept their prizes, even though the whole list of winners was revealed earlier in July.
The recipients of 72nd National Film Awards
At the occasion, the President presented veteran Kannada actor Anant Nag with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for 2024.
Yami Gautam won Best Actress for the Leading Role, while 370 was selected Best Feature Film. For Bramayugam and Chandu Champion, respectively, actors Mammootty and Kartik Aaryan shared the Best Actor in a Leading Role award.
The Best Direction Award went to Rajkumar Periasamay for Amaran. Randeev Hooda won for his feature film Swatantrya Veer Savarkar.
Captain Miller won Best Feature Promoting National, Social, and environmental Values. Kalki 2898 AD was named Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment.
Films in languages not included in the Constitution’s Eighth Schedule were also honoured with the prizes. Best Tulu Film went to IMBU. The Best Garhwali Film went to Dholi. Best Debut Film of a Director went to Angen.
Droupadi Murmu Regarding Celebrity Endorsements
At the 72nd National Film Awards, President Droupadi Murmu indeed issued a statement to well-known movie stars: Watch what you support.
The president stated that movie stars, especially younger audiences, may significantly influence the decisions and behaviours of their followers. Millions of kids and teenagers imitate renowned artists when they talk about the advantages of leading a disciplined lifestyle.
She said, “I implore well-known celebrities to refrain from endorsing unhealthy items.” According to Murmu, a real star is one that spreads light rather than darkness.
She also discussed the obligations that come with being a well-known artist and the impact that celebrities have outside of their film roles.
