Earlier this week, US Marines struck a ship off the coast of Oman. It killed three Indian seafarers who were initially reported missing. The news was declared by shipping minister Sarbananda Sonowal. The Minister described it as a tragic loss and stated that all three of the mission sailors’ bodies had been found.
When the Settebello, an oil tanker flying the flag of Palau, was attacked by the US military in the Gulf of Oman, her crew consisted of 28 people. It included 24 Indian citizens and 4 foreigners: 2 Pakistani, one Ukrainian, and one Russian. The US military said that it bombed the ship because it was purportedly transporting oil from Iran. They also said the ship disregarded its orders.
Three seafarers, named as deck cadet Aditya Sharma, engine fitter Shivanand Chaurasiya, and head engineer Patnala Suresh. They were reportedly still missing when the other 21 Indian sailors had been rescued from the ship.
