Updates on the NEET-UG paper leak case
Following Manisha Gurunath Mandhare’s arrest, a college in Pune announced that disciplinary actions would be taken against her. She was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in relation to the alleged NEET-UG 2026 paper leak case.
After being questioned at the NTA’s New Delhi headquarters, Mandhare was taken into custody. She was a member of the paper setting committee for the May 3 NEET-UG.
Logistical and Systematic Weaknesses
Scale of operations: There are numerous points of vulnerability and logistical complexity when a single exam is administered to over 22 lakh students at thousands of locations in a single day.
Dependency on physical paper: Before printed question papers are sent to students, they are handled by a number of middlemen. It leaves them open to interception and leakage.
Dependency on private operators: One weak link in the security change has been noted as NTA’s reliance on 3rd party logistics providers and private testing centre operators.
Weak Cybersecurity: Question paper production and dissemination processes are vulnerable to unauthorised access due to gaps in digital security.
