PM Modi in Seychelles: Receives Highest Environmental Honour

During his visit to the island nation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi received the “Guardian of the Blue Horizon.” It is the Seychelles’ highest presidential award for leadership in sustainable development and environmental preservation. As he accepted the award, Prime Minister Modi dedicated it to all countries cooperating to address the escalating problems caused by climate change.

“I humbly accept this title with honour and dedicate it to all other countries that are struggling against the challenges of climate change. Considering the protection of the environment their responsibility toward future generations.” The Prime Minister stated on X.

“I extend my gratitude to the people and government of Seychelles, as well as to President Herminie. For bestowing upon me the title ‘Guardian of the Blue Horizon,'” he continued.

Modi is visiting the island nation in East Africa for three days. He had bilateral discussions with Dr. Patrick Herminie, the president of the Seychelles. It happened earlier in the day at the State House in Victoria.

The summit took place as nations worked to fortify their long-standing defence. Also for marine security, development, and people-to-people relations.

PM Modi will be the honoured guest at the Golden Jubilee National Day celebrations in the Seychelles on Monday. He is also expected to speak to the Seychelles National Assembly and engage with Indian diaspora members during the visit.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the Seychelles National Botanical Gardens yesterday. He got to know Jonathan, the oldest living land animal in the world. There, too, he planted a tree.

Jonathan, a huge tortoise from the Seychelles. He is thought to have been born in 1832. It makes him roughly 194 years old. According to Guinness World Records, Jonathan is the oldest land mammal still alive.
