The digital streaming platform claims that this achievement makes the song the first African artist-led music to reach this milestone. The change comes after the song was added to Spotify’s 2023 Songs of Summer playlist with songs by other international superstars including Taylor Swift, Harry Styles, and SZA last month.

‘Calm Down’ has won several awards since its debut. Over a million Spotify users have added the Andre Vibez and London-produced song to their playlists. It also has a high position on the Billboard Hot 100. With 628 million views on YouTube, the song’s music video holds the record for the most-watched Afrobeats video ever. At the 16th Headies, which was held at the Cobb Energy Centre in Atlanta, US, the song also helped Rema win three awards.

Rema and Selena Gomez will be competing for three awards at the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards. Which will be held at the Prudential Centre in Newark, New Jersey, on September 12. They are looking to win the Best Afrobeats Song, Best Collaboration, and Song of the Year prizes.
