Grammy Awards 2024 Complete Nominee List: Women Leads!

This year’s Grammy Awards will be a woman’s world, with SZA taking home the most gold opportunities on the greatest night in music with nine, while pop icons Billie Eilish and Taylor Swift ruled the categories. According to the nominees list revealed on Friday, Olivia Rodrigo, Phoebe Bridgers, and the rock band boygenius are also serious competitors for the February 4 gala, where the music from the hit movie “Barbie” will most likely win.

With nominations in many categories, SZA—the sassy, R&B risk-taker whose nuanced romantic storylines brought her praise for her 2017 breakthrough single “Ctrl” and again for her 2022 hit song “SOS”—is certain to rule the gala. Additionally, Bridgers—one-third of the band Boygenius, which also included Julien Baker and Lucy Dacus—was nominated seven times, compared to the group’s six nominations overall, in both the rock and top genres. Thanks to her work on Greta Gerwig’s summer blockbuster “Barbie,” whose soundtrack also features Dua Lipa, Eilish, who is already highly decorated, has six possibilities to win a Grammy. The soundtrack has received nominations in both the main categories and the visual media sectors.

Producer Jack Antonoff, who is in high demand, received six nominations for his work. Including several with baroque pop singer Lana Del Rey, whose album “Did you know there’s a tunnel under Ocean Blvd.” Swift, 33, is currently at the top of the music industry after her massive Eras tour. Thus it would be a record-breaking fourth time she won Album of the Year if her song “Midnights” wins. She is presently tied with Frank Sinatra, Stevie Wonder, and Paul Simon for the highest Grammy award.

The only nominee for Record and Album of the Year is jazz virtuoso Jon Batiste. He defeated pop royalty to win the 2022 Grammy Awards two years ago.

Along with country singer-songwriter Brandy Clark and Miley Cyrus, he received six nominations this time around.

Meanwhile, Swift’s “Midnights” mixer Serban Ghenea, a highly sought-after engineer, received seven nominations.

Victoria Monet, a rising R&B artist, garnered seven nominations in all. Including the esteemed Record of the Year and Best New Artist awards.

Industry observers believe Ice Spice will triumph in the latter category following a stellar year in which the vivacious Bronx rapper collaborated with Swift and went viral many times.

Janelle Monae, a pop futurist, was nominated for her second Album of the Year, “The Age of Pleasure.”

Many opponents of the Recording Academy, the organization that organizes the Grammy Awards, have long lamented the lack of a banner year for women in music. The Academy has long been criticized for favoring predominantly white, male performers.

Neil Portnow, the previous head of the influential organization. Resigned from his position in 2019 after making remarks during the height of the #MeToo movement. That suggested female musicians should “step up” if they wanted greater acclaim.

This week, Portnow was sued in Manhattan. On charges that she drugged and sexually assaulted an unidentified female artist in 2018. The lawsuit also charges the Academy with carelessness, claiming that it disregarded and shielded Portnow from accusations of mistreatment. Portnow and the organization both angrily refute the accusations.
