Sonam Wangchuk will stay at the government-run Safdarjung Hospital after his wife’s appeal to move him to a private facility was denied by the Delhi High Court. Following a three-week hunger strike in hot and muggy Delhi over the purported NEET paper leak and educational reforms, Wangchuk was hospitalised by the authorities yesterday.
A court led by Justice Mini Pushkarna decided yesterday afternoon that the government had every right to move him. They said he refused to check himself into a hospital despite his deteriorating condition. “No interim orders are required to be passed at this stage,” she said.

One of the most dramatic moments of Sonam Wangchuk’s 21-day hunger strike occurred on Saturday. What started out as just another morning at the Jantar Mantar protest site in Delhi became international news. Police whisked the climate activist away to Safdarjung Hospital amid reports of a forced transfer. However authorities denied the claim.
Protesters in the Jantar Mantar, however, claimed that the evacuation was completed in five to ten minutes. Witnesses stated that a number of “Delhi Police” officers, including plainclothes officers, entered the protest site. The site where Sonam Wangchuk had been fasting since June 28.
