ENG vs. AFG Highlights: Historic win of AFG by 69 Runs in CWC

After England welcomed Afghanistan to bat first, Afghanistan put up a strong 284 on the scoreboard. Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran got things going by giving Afghanistan a superb start, accumulating 114 runs in 16.1 overs for the first wicket. Zadran did a great job of playing the second fiddle while Gurbaz performed the most of the scoring.

Afghanistan briefly collapsed after Adil Rashid shattered the alliance. Gurbaz was run out for 80(57), while Zadran fell for 28(48). In just 18.5 overs, Afghanistan was reduced to 122/3 after losing three early wickets. Up until Rashid Khan and Ikram Alikhil took over, the wickets kept falling. As usual, Rashid played several elegant shots, but Joe Root’s spectacular long-on attempt was superior. He was down for 23(22). Before being caught by Reece Topley, Alikhil had hit 58 (66), while Mujeeb Ur Rahman had smashed 28 off only 16 balls.

Although just one England bowler, Liam Livingstone, returned with a wicket, he was the most efficient, giving up 33 runs in his allotted number of overs. While Mark Wood struck twice, Adil Rashid took three scalps. Reece Topley and Joe Root both came back with one scalp apiece.
